Bokprojektet startade 2013 när vi började med släktforskning. När vi kom till vår mormors sida tog det stopp. Vi visste väldigt lite om hennes förflutna. Det enda vi visste var att hon var född i Polen och att hon suttit en tid i koncentrationslägret Ravensbrück innan hon befriades och anlände till Sverige vid andra världskrigets slut.

Där föddes idén om att försöka hitta svar på våra frågor...

• Var kom hon ifrån?
• Vad hände med hennes familj i Polen?
• Finns det släktingar i livet?
• Varför satt hon i koncentrationsläger?

Sökandet gav oss idén att skriva en bok. Läsaren kommer få följa med på våra resor i Sverige, Tyskland och Polen och besöka släktingar samt historiska platser från krigstiden. Parallellt med detta kommer vi skildra mormors levnadshistoria.

The book project started in 2013 when we started out with genealogy research. When we got to our maternal grandmother's side we were unable to go any further. We knew very little about her past. The only thing we knew was that she was born in Poland and that she had been for some time in the concentration camp Ravensbrück before she was liberated and arrived in Sweden by the end of WWII. 

That is when the idea of finding answers to our questions was born...

• Where did she come from?
• What happened to her family in Poland?
• Are there any relatives alive today?
• Why was she put in a concentration camp?

The search for these answers gave us the idea to write a book. The reader will be able to join us on our journeys in Sweden, Germany and Poland and visit relatives and historical sites from the time of the war. Along with this we will also tell the story of our grandmother's life.

Målsättningen är att boken ska finnas till försäljning på svenska den 1:a maj 2020, 75 år efter vår mormors ankomst till Sverige. På grund av det intresse som väckts kring projektet i andra länder planerar vi även att översätta boken till i första hand: tyska, engelska och polska.

I vår vision ser vi även en uppföljning på det stora forskningsarbete vi gjort. Publiceringen av boken är förhoppningsvis ett sätt att nå ut till många som liksom vi är engagerade i denna historiska period och dess konsekvenser för oss alla.

The objective is for the book to be available in Swedish on May 1, 2020, 75 years after our grandmother's arrival in Sweden. Due to the response we have received while working on the project in other countries we are also planning on translating the book primarily into: German, English and Polish. 

As part of our vision we also expect continuing work related to the research we have done. Publishing the book is hopefully a way to reach out to many who are, much like ourselves, committed to this historical period and its consequences for all of us.
